Bluetooth® and Voice Control

Bluetooth® and Voice Control
It's amazing how fast technology has advanced over the last few years. What for instance would they have made of Ford's ingenious Bluetooth® with Voice Control system back in the eighties? For a memorable product demo watch the video above.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bluetooth® is a short-range wireless communications technology that allows devices such as mobile phones, laptops and MP3 players to talk to each other without needing to be connected by cables. Instead they communicate with each other by radio waves.

It’s now a universally accepted technology that’s available worldwide. It’s simple to use because with Bluetooth® enabled devices, you don’t need to buy any specific equipment for your vehicle. And since it operates on a radio band that’s free of charge, you pay nothing for using it either.

Because Bluetooth® can handle both data and voice transmissions at the same time, it offers you a host of clever innovations. Using a hands-free headset for voice calls and being able to synchronise some of your mobile phone applications, such as phone book.

But the main benefit for drivers is that, combined with a voice control system, it makes life a lot safer. You see, the Bluetooth® with Voice Control System, which we offer on our cars, lets you operate a range of devices without taking your hands off the wheel.

You can make and take mobile phone calls without using your hands. (That’s not only safer, but it also means you’re keeping within the law while staying in touch.) You can also change tracks on your CD player or stations on your radio, adjust the climate* in your car, and even control the satellite navigation system, without lifting a finger. Instead, you use voice commands. Put simply, you just talk to your car and tell it what to do.

*Optional on selected models.

First you turn on the Voice Control function using a switch. You then make your voice commands as you wish - for example, 'Dial home', 'Dial work', 'CD', 'Radio' or 'Navigation'. You can get help at any time, just by saying 'Help'. You can also record your own voice tags for favourite numbers, radio stations or even satellite navigation** locations.

Your voice commands are detected by a microphone housed in your car. You don’t even have to ‘train’ the system to recognise your voice – it happens automatically.
